Hanley Offers MultiElement Airfoils 3.0

OCALA, Florida, May 23, 2007 - Hanley Innovations, a leader in the
development of interactive PC software for aerodynamics conceptual design
and analysis, announced the availability of MultiElement Airfoils 3.0.
MultiElement Airfoils is a Windows based computational fluid dynamics
(CFD) software package for analyzing airfoils and other two-dimensional
shapes placed in close proximity to each other simply by using a mouse to
drag the objects to their desired locations.

MultiElement Airfoils 3.0 Showing High Lift Airfoil
Configuration

MultiElement Airfoils 3.0 is based on a novel cartesian grid generation
procedure for solving the two-dimensional & axisymmetric Euler
Equations. The software can be used to efficiently analyze subsonic, transonic
and supersonic flows past multiple airfoils placed at arbitrary locations.
The Euler solver is optimized for the cartesian grid scheme and is used to
compute the lift & drag coefficients for rotor craft sections, high speed
race car wings and transonic aircraft wing sections. It can also be used
compute the drag divergent Mach number (Mdd) for multiple airfoil configurations.
This is especially useful for conceptual design of rotor blades and business
jet aircraft. Results are comparable to body-fitted grid solutions. For example,
the compute lift and wave drag coefficients for a NACA 0012 airfoil at one
degree angle of attack and Mach number of 0.85 is found to be 0.365 and 0.0591,
respectively. These numbers are within 2% of the numbers found in the literature
for the same case. We also compared the results for the RAE 2822 airfoil
against an o-grid solution. The figure below is a graph of the pressure
coefficient for a Mach number of 0.729 and angle of attack of 2.31 degrees.
