Dr. Hanley's Aerodynamics Suite.
Teachers, Welcome to Dr. Hanley's Aerodynamics Suite!
We are pleased to announce our comprehensive scientific lessons and virtual
labs for k-12 and higher education. We provide software and services
that will transform your classroom into an exciting aerodynamics lab
for inciting curiosity, learning and scientific discovery. Our software
offers a unique approach whereby students can gain intuition and experience
in the exciting world of aerodynamics. They will apply the identical tools
used by industrial and academic professionals
to solve new and interesting problems.
Aerodynamics Suite-Online
Dr. Hanley's easy-to-use software allows students to test and understand
the behavior of airfoils and airplane wings right on their classroom
PCs. With just a few mouse clicks, students can design
a wing that is capable of supporting a jet airliner in flight. They can
also use the same software to design, test and construct a model airplane
wing for a hands-on project. The Aerodynamics Suite can be used for science
fairs, airplane and race car design competitions, marine design and
turbomachinery applications.
Dr. Hanley's Aerodynamic Suite is a complete package that contains libraries
of many popular airfoils. Students and teachers will not have to waste valuable
instructional time obtaining the perfect wing for their project. Students
can experiment with custom shapes in addition to those now currently used
in the aircraft, automobile and marine industries. Aerodynamics Suite provides
all the information necessary for students to make critical design and
construction decisions for their project. The software
accurately compute the airfoil's lift, drag
and moment coefficients and simulate the behavior of aerodynamic surfaces
near stall.
Example Problems and Solutions
The following are examples of the real-world problems and learning
activities that can be addressed and solved by students and teachers using
Dr. Hanley's Aerodynamics Suite:
Online Demonstrations
The software package in Dr. Hanley's Aerodynamics Suite are easy-to-use,
accurate and efficient. The following online demos show how easy it is for
students and teachers to address complex aerodynamics problems using the
software.

About Dr. Hanley
Dr. Patrick E. Hanley,
is the owner and founder of Hanley Innovations, a small business specializing
in the development of aerodynamics and fluid dynamics simulation software
for education and industry. Dr. Hanley earned his B.S. degree (summa cum
laude) in aerospace engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York
and his S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the department of Aeronautics and
Astronautics of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also completed
a minor in the area of management of innovation and technology at MIT's Sloan
School of Management.
After graduating from MIT, Dr. Hanley joined the Mechanical Engineering
faculty at the University of Connecticut where he formulated and taught
courses in aerodynamics, compressible fluids, introductory fluid mechanics
and heat transfer. As a faculty member, he won the highly competitive National
Science Foundation Research Initiation Award, the NASA-ASEE Summer Faculty
Fellowship and three consecutive research awards from NASA Lewis Research
center to study compressible viscous flows in turbomachinery using pseudospectral
methods. This research led to the successful education of four (4) Ph.D students
and four (4) Masters degree students. In addition Dr. Hanley can be credited
with a number of publications including the pioneering work in multi-domain
pseudospectral methods for compressible viscous flows entitled "A Strategy
for the Efficient Simulation of Viscous Compressible Flows using a Multi-domain
Pseudospectral Method" which can be found in Journal of Computational Physics,
Vol 108, No. 1, pp. 153-158, September 1993.
As owner and chief software author of Hanley Innovations, Dr. Hanley
has written a number of software packages including
AirfoilBrowser,
Airfoil Organizer,
Science Graphs,
VisualFoil,
ModelFoil,
Aerodynamics in Plain English,
Center of Gravity Calculator,
WingAnalysis,
SmockSoft,
PerpeturalPaper amongst other titles.
